The International Symposium on Sustainable Design (ISSD), organized in conjunction with the Brazilian Symposium on Sustainable Design (SBDS), is the most important scientific event in South America on the issue of Sustainable Design. The I ISSD was held in Curitiba in 2007, and the II ISSD took place in in Sao Paulo in 2009. Both events showed a thriving design research community eager for an event focused on exclusively on the issue of sustainability. This year the event will occur on the 29nd and 30rd of September and it will be hosted by the Federal University of Pernambuco, in the city of Recife. Under the theme “New Frontiers new Challenges”, the III ISSD seeks to integrate several scientific areas of knowledge in order to broaden design’s relationship with sustainability. The event brings together design professionals, academics, government and industry to discuss concepts, tools and methodologies on the design contribution towards a more sustainable society. Proposals for the event are organized (but not limited) in the following research topics: Sustainable Consumption and New Lifestyles, (2) Territory, culture and cultural identity for sustainability. (3) Tools and methods for sustainable design, (4) Sustainable products, systems and product-service systems, (5) New sustainable scenarios for mobility, food, clothing and shelter (6) Education for sustainability (7) Sustainable technologies, (8) New perspectives on sustainability.
